THE ASBURY GROUP HERITAGE: TRANSFORMING A HISTORIC MISSION INTO A VISION FOR THE FUTURE
Some organizations point with pride to a long list of accomplishments as proof of their worth. Although justifiably proud of our heritage at Asbury Communities and The Asbury Group, we see it as more than a list of properties marked along a timeline. Ours is a deep-rooted heritage that defines our past and informs our future – a future in which we'll continue to meet and exceed national standards of excellence for continuing care retirement communities.
We strive to realize that vision by meeting three major goals:
- Create new services for the next generation of seniors
- Continually expand the range and quality of services we
offer
- Achieve excellent performance in all facets of our
operation.
Deep Roots, Deeper Commitments
Asbury Communities, parent of The Asbury Group, traces its roots to the 1920s, when the Methodist Episcopal Church founded the Gaithersburg Home for the Aged in Maryland. The mission: to provide housing and long term care services to elderly church members consistent with the example of church leaders John Wesley and Francis Asbury.
Over the ensuing decades, the home expanded and evolved, but it wasn’t until 1970 that independent living apartments were introduced, as well as skilled nursing care. With these additions, the campus became known as Asbury Methodist Village (AMV) and opened its doors to anyone, regardless of religious affiliation.
