Cyber Attack Via Phishing Email Targets CCRC System
Is your organization protected against the cyber hackers who target your networks daily?
Recently The Asbury Group Integrated Technologies was called in to stop a malware attack attempting to gather associate emails, user names and passwords, as well as breach sensitive information belonging to residents of a system of three retirement communities. Access was inadvertently granted through one of the many phishing emails that target businesses every day. Because the associate’s computer did not have up-to-date anti-virus software, the virus spread.
The Asbury Group IT began implementing an IT Incident Response plan immediately, shutting down networks to contain the virus and working with an IT forensics specialist to isolate and identify the malicious code. From there, the team worked to remove the code and ensure it would not have another avenue for attack once networks were brought back online.
“For two weeks, this organization was essentially back in the 1970s,” says Joseph Kulnis, Senior Director of Technology and Compliance for The Asbury Group IT. “No printing, no file sharing, no electronic medical records. They were back to paper. Unfortunately, this is a risk for many organizations unless they have a strong IT security and compliance plan in place.”
